Running away with the Circus is a tempting dream... but, alas, you no longer need to run far from home, because The Circus is stampeding into Austin at The VORTEX! CircX VorteX will transform The VORTEX into the Circus hub in East Austin. Performers, Musicians, Artists, & Freaks WELCOME!

Join me (Producer Jessica Ryan) as we seize the opportunity to define art on our own terms and create an all-inclusive Circus to call home... in Austin. And how can we make this dream come true? I'm glad you asked...

Thanks to all of the wonderful staff and performers, The Faery Masque Ball was such a success that The VORTEX has given us Sundays June 20th & July 25th to host CircX VorteX. We have access to The VORTEX Café & Yard, with a beer & wine bar, and a brand new aerial rig on the outdoor stage! All we need to do is work together to make it all happen!

By continuing in the trend of The VORTEX's fundraiser, The Faery Masque Ball, we will keep CircX VorteX a FREE event, collect suggested donations of $10-$30 at the door. From now on, the donations will be split between performers and production costs. The idea is to develop a system that welcomes audiences of all financial status and encourages the members of the CircX to invest in the audience in order to collect donations throughout the event.

This is Busking meets Pay-at-Will Socialist mentality! Audiences can pay what they can afford, what they feel the experience is worth, and performers and staff will be monetarily appreciated. Some money will go to cover production costs like sound equipment and posters, and maybe someday, a big-top tent! The budget breakdown of how money will be divided between production and performers will be decided in all fairness before the event and it will be available for all participants to see.

Artists and Activities will again have a Tip-Jar with Suggested Donation at their tables. I think we should vote as a group as to how these tables can contribute to the project, maybe donate 10% profits to the project? This would need to go for vendors as well. I can also post topics to be voted on online, so we can see where everyone stands and all votes will be considered.

And thinking in terms of investment, this project will make for an amazing grant proposal. My goal is to start this project and build a name for it. With the support of the VORTEX, CircX VorteX can apply to be sponsored by the City of Austin and for other grants as a VORTEX Umbrella project for financial funding.

In the spirit of Collective Anarchy, I will be holding weekly meetings during The VORTEX Happy Hours on Thursdays & Fridays 5-7:30pm. This is where and when we can meet as a group, make decisions, and cast votes in the decision making process. On that note, your presence is as important as you make it.

One proposal I have for performanes, is to match live musicians with performers in vignettes. Imagine a bellydancer flowing to a flute, an aerialist swooping to a clarinet, and a clown marching to her own drum beat! Let me know if this sounds interesting to you.
